Hi,
I am posting in Beginners because I am, and full of curiosity for the new hobby I am embarking upon.

My concern at the moment, before I even put wheel to tarmac, is what to me as a total novice seem a very meagre Payload.
It may be fine for week and week-end trips, but I know only too well how many extra items are likely to sneak on board over a longer period.
So my question is, is this a likely occurrence, is it a common occurrence, and if so what are the chances of a weight check? (assuming my extra accumulations have not reached an absurd level and completely flattened the suspension making my offence obvious.)

Hello Duztee

Yes you are right payloads are meagre, especially as manufacturers are trying to cram more in and at the same time try to stay below 3.5 tonne.

I suppose statistically on a mile by mile basis the likelihood of being pulled over for a weight check is low. That said, some of our motorways now have sensors in the road to check weights and a camera to link the reading to a specific vehicle. In addition, if your outfit looks overloaded then again you might get pulled over and taken to a DVSA depot. If you have a serious accident and have been found to be overweight then this may make your insurance invalid.

It is possible to increase your payload capacity on some vans.

Many people will empty their vans now and again and if they haven't used the items will not put them back in.

Hope this helps
