Britain in the frost
2013
February
The smallest motorhome trip we have ever done! We sallied forth and went all of 7 miles to Christchurch/Bournemouth for a rally with the C&CC Motorhome section. Incredibly the stewards remembered us from 4 years ago - the one and only time we have been with this group before. Lovely people these motorhomers . Our stay gave us the opportunity to check out all the workings on Sally, which were working, and for Frances to revisit some of the places she used to go to as a child while staying on holidays in Bournemouth.
March
To Corfe Castle for an MAS meet. Staying on a proper campsite - an unusual event for us, but very welcome in the unseasonaly cold weather we are having. Here's a photo to prove it!
We manged to get in some good walking despite the rain, which 'kindly' came down in torrents each night. A good 4 night stop in winter weather which hould have been spring.
Still in March, we set off for the village of Wildhern near Andover for another walking weekend. This time it is really cold for late March, waking up to frost each morning - no electric hook-up this time, but we have taken an extra duvet, so sleep soundly each night (especially following wlaks of 6 to 8 miles each day). Incredibly it is pretty dry underfoot - the complete opposite of what we experienced 2 weeks ago. Another couple of good walks, but we decide not to go on the planned 10 mile walk on Monday, but instead set off for home and do a 'pre-walk' of a walk Frances will lead with a group next week. Fortunately the route is all passable, which is good for the Forest after all the heavy rain this winter.
Nothing very exceptional in any of our trips so far, but we get out and about with friends, get some exercise and have a few laughs, when otherwise we would simply have hidden indoors to keep out of the winter weather which is still covereing Blighty. We do reflect, though, that we will be travelling North on our 'big trip' in a few weeks time and try to convince ourselves that as the sun is getting higher in the sky, it has to get warmer soon!
