Britain in the frost

2013

February

The smallest motorhome trip we have ever done!  We sallied forth and went all of 7 miles to Christchurch/Bournemouth for a rally with the C&CC Motorhome section.  Incredibly the stewards remembered us from 4 years ago - the one and only time we have been with this group before.  Lovely people these motorhomers .  Our stay gave us the opportunity to check out all the workings on Sally, which were working, and for Frances to revisit some of the places she used to go to as a child while staying on holidays in Bournemouth.

March

To Corfe Castle for an MAS meet.  Staying on a proper campsite - an unusual event for us, but very welcome in the unseasonaly cold weather we are having.  Here's a photo to prove it!

Campervan on the drive

Hi All,

Yesterday we collected our two year old Burstner Nexxo T660, which now sits proudly on our recently specially widened drive!

Collection went well other than a hiccough re fitting of the alarm ,(it hadn't been done)!  However it was arranged for the engineer to come to our house this morning and fit it, he duly arrived at 8.30 and in the freezing temperatures/wind fitted the alarm.

All is now well and all we have to do is kit it out  the inside and get a little decent weather so we can get out and us it; and hopefully we will get to meet some of you.

Sallying forth

We are Edward and Frances, motorhoming in our Autotrail named Sally. We have had her for five years now, so we consider ourselves reasonably experienced motorhomers by now. We spend several months each year travelling in Europe, and weekends in England walking with a group of like-minded folk through central southern England. We only use campsites occasionally, preferring to stop and go in accordance with a general plan which is there to be changed according to whim and what happens on the day

Romantic road trip May 2012

THE  plan was to visit Prague, Dresden, Berlin. All changed in a moment and we were heading to Wurzburg then down the Romantic Road to Fussen.

16/5/12 So having spent a peaceful night at Black Horse Farm Folkestone, we were up at 4.30am, heading for Dover for 6am DSFS ferry to Dunkerque, no issues at customs etc., and we were in the queue for ferry in our Elddis Sunseeker 200 complete with bikes, and kettle on. Outside it was another summer’s day (not) grey and drizzle was the order of day.

On reaching Dunkerque the sun came out and we headed to one of our favourite stops the Aire at Genk in Belgium N50D 57' 26"  E5d 31' 59", takes 7 vans free, if you don't want electric,5 euros with electric and water. On site there is a Planetarium, two restaurant’s, stables and numerous foot and cycle path's through the forest. We like this site as when you are on early ferry it’s an easy 170 miles, so after lunch we cycled into town, easy ride all cycle path’s. On our return we noticed there was now 12 vans on the site, by 8pm there was 20,most of them Belgium plates,  during evening 5 more vans arrived but  there is plenty of room to park in car parks around site. Did not understand why so many where there.

Denia to Calpe

The first week at the Denia aire was great. Beach walking for Digger, a fine local tapas bar which we were very happy to introduce some fellow members to

Those that played it safe ordering bocadillos etc were quite obviously envious with our groups choices of a selection of the freshest local tapas - when in Spain and all that!

Saturday was the giant paella day and very good it was too. the owners of the Aire supplied this free to us and it was much appreciated. Following the paella we drew our raffle which had made a total of €132 - Thank you again all those that contributed.

All too soon the first week was over and we all (well, nearly all) transferred to the Aire at Calpe for the second week. Another 'super' Aire and within a few minutes walk to the beach and bars, restaurants etc.

To the left hand side of the resort is a coastal walk which wends its way along the rocky coastline...
