at what weight do you need a special license please
Hi
Not sure what you are asking. Can you expand your question as I am not sure to what sort of license you are referring. Presumably the weight is that of the motorhome?

Regarding your driving license the key weight is 3500kg LADEN weight. If you have a license issued prior to 1997 you would normally have the C category included enabling you to drive vehicles over 3500kg; after that date you would need a separate test ( I believe!) Most adverts for MH's detail laden weight and payload, which you deduct from the total. Most MH magazines have weight and payload details of available MH included eg MMM

Hi hampshirefair and :welcome3:

I don't think current regulations appear in 'old money'

What MR2 is saying is correct as far as I'm aware....

Up to 3500kg fully laden (vehicle plus all contents) anyone can drive with a full UK licence.

Over 3500kg fully laden (but below 7500kg) you would need a full licence passed before 1997 or an additional category added (C1) if passed since. Also medicals required to keep that category after the age of 70.

Hope this helps.

perhaps you can start from here:
https://www.gov.uk/vehicles-you-can-drive
Look on your driving licence and see what catagory you are entitled to drive .e.g C1 ,C1E.
look at this link for the weights you are entitled to depending when the licence was issued
https://www.gov.uk/old-driving-licence-categories
When you reach age 70,then you,ll need to pass a medical to drive over 3,500 kg .
hope this helps .

Hi Maty70, did your licence definitely have that category before the renewal for the photo? Have you passed age 70?

Might be best to contact DVLA

You should have C1. The requirements changed in 1997. DVLA are known for missing this catagory off when Driving Licences are renewed.
