I came across this link elsewhere and thought it might be useful to those looking for vets prior to their return to the UK.

The link is to a Google Map of vets in Europe who are recommended by Motorhome owners and are familiar with the Pet Passport scheme.

For our new puppy, Pippa we paid:

Microchip: £16.34

1st Rabies Vaccination: £38.90

2nd Rabies Vaccination: £38.90

Pets Passport: £30.76

Total £109.90

That is not including Her two annual vaccinations being a puppy. Usually 1 annual vaccination.

William

That is a one off cost for the actual Pets Passport.

For travelling it is free outward on some ferries and a £30 fee for travelling back to UK. The Eurotunnel now charges £15 each way, so if doing a return with them it is also £30.

We are going out by ferry on our first trip this year and on DFDS that was free for the dogs.
We are back via the Shuttle and was going to be £15 but now we have to add an extra dog so will be £30.

The other on going costs are: Repeat Rabies vaccination which for us is in 3 years time (depends on the validity date of vaccination given. Most I think are now 3 years in the UK but 1 year if given abroad).

The other cost is the return to UK fee by the vet in France or wherever. Worming treatment has to be done 1-5 days before arriving in UK. We often use a vet at Bergues as there is parking nearby and they only charge £25 for this and that included both dogs last time. The vet at Stenay also is reasonable.

I would also advise your friends to use Frontline (we use Advantix as it covers more things). Although not required for re-entry to UK it does protect our dear pets from nasties encountered overseas.

Great list of vets thanks Neil.
We have been across to France and Spain for fairly short periods during the last 2 years without our 2 dogs (much to their disgust as they love the motorhome!!). We have decided to go for longer this year so have bitten the bullet and got passports for Buddy and Amber (Jen cannot bear to leave them again!!). Just wondered if anyone can recommend a vet they have used within maybe one or two days travel from Calais with easy parking (or close to an Aire)?
Thanks again for a great website

Hi Del - we usually use the vets at Forges Les Eaux. There is a lovely aire just outside the small town which has nice restaurants, bars, shops.

The English speaking vet is Patrick Pattyn, address 1 rue de Neufchâtel, 76440 Forges les Eaux. Tel no 02 35 90 50 55.
N49 36.350' E001 32.550'

If you have 'All the Aires' 4th edition it is on Page 386

We have also used the vets at Forges Les Eaux and can recommend it and the Aires.

We have also used the vet at Bergues, 1 Marche Aux Bestiaux, F-59380.
Tel +33 3 28 68 66 66

Ther is an Aire/parking area just before the town walled gates. It is signed.

Basically it is a large parking area which allows overnight motorhome parking. No services though. Walking the dog around the ramparts is also good from the parking.

The good thing is, its 5 min walk to the vets, and the vets charge €25 for both dogs together and not each as is the case for most vets. (of course this could change but hasn't so far).
There is a Lidl and Mcdonalds within walking distance.

There is a lovely restaurant by the canal a bit of a walk to it though.

Just an update for vet at Bergues - had two dogs treated there last week (25 and 18 kilos) and vet charged 41 euros which included the tablets. Agree the town is well worth a visit and the Aire is very convenient.

I have up-dated the Bergues Vet prices.

Other Vets have been added recently and any extra information about recommended Vets you have used this year is appreciated.

Did you go to the vet in town or the one on the main road? If in town then the price has gone up a lot especially charging for each dog
Mind you the weight might be a factor but ours are over 10kg as they are 12kg.
