Well should we still patronise Portugal after their recent revenue raising exercise on the Brits Bingo game.
Everyone arrested at one of the Brit bars, even the spectators fined 150 euro for just watching and given a three month suspended sentence Players fined 300 euro and three months suspended and bar owner fined 700 euro and three months suspended sentence and her husban 500 euro and four monthe suspended.
The Police also seized the tin of biscuits which was to have been the prize.
The Police had 'steaked' out the bar for several weeks prior to the swoop. BBC link

Now I know they are short of money in Portugal but is this the way to increase their revenue from tourism or will it turn and bite them with us deciding to take our euros elsewhere to spend them
Seems trivial BUT if its against the country's law then the landlord and players have been flouting it....

News item on the BBC sounds ridiculous when all they have been gambling with was biscuits, although there was a cash entry fee to play.

I think the landlord would have known it was illegal and for all we know there may be a lot of history and more of a story to this

(It maybe that similar 'games' in Spain could be wrong too 1€ entry to a 'Play your cards right' for example?)

We usualy spend the worst winter months in Spain but now we have the MH, are thinking of traveling from home (France) via Barcelona then down toward Moriara area for the parade of Kings.
Then onwards across towards Portugal, seeing what it's like, we have heard it can be very wet there, and if not as hoped drop back down into Spain before coming back home around March.
Can anyone kindly recommend  any good sites to visit in Portugal?
Thanks

Hi there is a lot of info on the site about Portugal, some campsites and wild / free / aire type stuff. The site is being worked on furiously as we speak to put the map problem right. Hopefully normal service will be resumed shortly.....

Portugal is lovely albeit subject to the Atlantic wind.

Almeria is apparently the 'best' bet for warmth and sun but climate change seems to upset the weather anywhere these days.

Happy travels

To answer the OP's question: yes of course we should still be planning to visit/visiting Portugal.
The strict "no gambling except in specifically licensed premises" law is widely known there (and in Spain) too and is strictly enforced. When in Rome etc.........

Because a few Brits knowingly broke that law and got caught and fined for doing so, why should that deter anyone else from visiting the country?

How many Brits get caught breaking UK laws every hour of every day?

No; it's irrelevant to whether or not other people should visit the country.
