A dog in the city of Toledo, central Spain was confirmed to have rabies on 5 June 2013.
It seems that the dog had been returned into Spain from Morocco infected with rabies and has gone on to attack several people. The dog was put down.
The areas now considered to carry an ongoing risk are a perimeter of 20-km radius around the city of Toledo, region of Castilla-La Mancha, the province of Huesca, region of Aragón, the provinces of Girona and Barcelona, including Barcelona city, and the region of Catalonia.
